Highly Porous Open Cell Nickel Stainless Steel Foam
Introdução
- Nickel stainless steel foam is a 3D open‑cell Ni‑Cr‑Fe porous metal with high porosity, good mechanical strength and excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance. Its interconnected stainless‑type skeleton provides a large specific surface area and uniform gas/liquid flow channels, making it ideal for high‑temperature gas and liquid filters, catalyst supports, burner and combustion elements, and heat‑exchange media. The foam can be supplied in different thicknesses and pore sizes (PPI) and easily cut or formed to customer dimensions.
- Thanks to the combined properties of nickel, chromium and iron, Ni‑Cr‑Fe stainless foam maintains stability in hot oxidizing atmospheres and many industrial process gases. It is widely used in petrochemical, metallurgy, power generation and environmental engineering as a lightweight, durable alternative to sintered metals and ceramic structures. Using nickel stainless steel foam helps improve heat and mass transfer, reduce pressure drop and extend the service life of filtration and catalytic systems.
Especificações
| Tipo | Open‑cell nickel stainless steel foam / Ni‑Cr‑Fe alloy foam |
| Purity / Alloy Base | Ni‑Cr‑Fe heat‑resistant alloy / stainless‑type system (similar to Ni‑Cr‑Fe stainless or heat‑resistant steels, with optimized Ni/Cr/Fe ratios for high‑temperature oxidation and corrosion resistance) |
| Formulário | Sheet, plate, strip, or custom‑cut blocks/parts depending on size and thickness |
| Tamanho da célula (PPI) | Typically 10–80 PPI; coarse (10–20 PPI), medium (20–40 PPI) and fine (40–80 PPI) structures available; other pore sizes can be customized on request |
| Espessura | Standard approx. 0.5–20 mm; other thicknesses can be customized according to application (filters, catalyst supports, burner cores, etc.) |
| Tamanho e forma | Common sheets: e.g. 100 × 100 mm / 200 × 300 mm; can be cut, punched or formed into discs, rings, cylinders and other shapes as per customer drawings |
| Porosidade | Typically about 70% – 95%, depending on grade, PPI and density; higher porosity gives larger surface area and lower weight, lower porosity gives higher strength |
| Taxa de células abertas | Usually ≥ 95% (3D interconnected open‑cell structure), providing continuous channels for gas/liquid flow and heat/mass transfer |
| Densidade volumétrica | Approx. 0.3–1.5 g/cm³ (adjustable by porosity and structure), much lower than dense stainless alloys while maintaining metallic framework |
| Densidade superficial | Approx. 300–6000 g/m², depending on thickness and density; can be selected to balance strength, pressure drop and weight |
| Thermal Conductivity (Effective) | Typically around 2–25 W/m·K (strongly depends on porosity and alloy; bulk Ni‑Cr‑Fe alloys are higher, but effective value is reduced by pores); suitable for heat‑exchange and thermal‑management components |
| Mechanical Strength (Compressive) | Typically about 2–10 MPa (varies with density, pore size and alloy composition); higher density and lower PPI provide higher strength and stiffness |
| Average Tensile Strength (N/20 mm) | For thin, medium‑density foam strips, vertical ≥ 20 N/20 mm, horizontal ≥ 15 N/20 mm (reference values; actual data depend on specific product and structure) |
| Temperature Resistance (Air / Oxidizing Atmosphere) | Generally suitable for long‑term use around 800–1000 ℃ in air and oxidizing atmospheres (exact limit depends on Ni‑Cr‑Fe grade and working environment; Cr provides high‑temperature oxidation resistance) |
| Aparência | Metallic gray Ni‑Cr‑Fe stainless‑type surface, uniform color, without obvious defects such as heavy oxide scale flaking, blind holes, large through holes, severe deformation or cracks |
| Chemical Composition | Ni‑Cr‑Fe multi‑component alloy; Cr content provides oxidation and corrosion resistance, while Ni and Fe provide mechanical strength and toughness; exact composition per specific stainless/heat‑resistant grade or customer specification |
| Electrical Conductivity | Good metallic electrical conductivity; effective conductivity decreases with porosity and foam structure but remains suitable for current collectors, heating elements and conductive catalyst supports |
| Corrosion & Oxidation Resistance | Good to excellent oxidation resistance in air and many combustion gases; good corrosion resistance in many high‑temperature oxidizing environments typical of furnaces and burners; not suitable for highly reducing or aggressive halide atmospheres beyond alloy design limits without additional protection |
| Flexibilidade | Certain flexibility for thin, medium‑porosity sheets; can be slightly bent and compressed, but stiffness and brittleness increase with thickness and higher density; repeated sharp bending may cause local fracture of the foam ligaments |
| Elongation Rate (%) | Typically low compared with fully dense ductile stainless steels; for thin, high‑porosity foam, vertical ≈ 2–4%, horizontal ≈ 3–5% (reference values; actual data depend on grade and structure) |
| Typical Applications | High‑temperature catalyst supports, burner and combustion elements, radiant burner cores, high‑temperature gas/liquid filters, heat‑exchanger media, gas distribution plates, flame stabilizers, and energy‑absorbing/thermal‑insulation structures in petrochemical, power, metallurgy, environmental and thermal engineering fields |
| Main Features & Advantages | Combines high porosity and large surface area with stainless‑type corrosion and oxidation resistance; 3D interconnected network enables efficient heat and mass transfer with low pressure drop; lightweight yet mechanically stable, making it a robust support for catalysts, burners, filters and other high‑temperature process components |
